For the last five years, Kathy Barr has served us as office assistant in our parish office. Kathy has done an excellent job in welcoming those who contact us in person and over the phone. She facilitates those who use our Food Pantry and edits our weekly bulletin. She also provides reliable service to me in keeping track of our upcoming marriages and recording the sacraments which have been celebrated at St. Noel in our parish records.
Kathy will be retiring at the end of January. She has many ideas on how to spend her additional time together with her husband, Rick. She plans to remain a parishioner at St. Noel. I am sure you will join with me in thanking Kathy for her years of service.
Since we will be facing a major transition when Carole Lester retires this summer, we do not plan to replace Kathy until Carole’s successor is in place. Therefore, for the next few months we will be in need of assistance in our office. If there are any parishioners who are free during the day and are willing to volunteer some time to answer phones and welcome those who visit our office, please contact me or Carole Lester. ST. NOEL OFFICE MANAGER POSITION – A full job description for this position can be found on our parish website (www.stnoel.org). It is also posted on our diocesan website. The position is open to all qualified persons whether they be St. Noel parishioners or not. All resumes should be submitted to Fr. George Smiga by February 1st. Please spread the word that we have begun this search. We hope to have our new office manager in place by April 2014.

PARISH POTLUCK AND GAME NIGHT – Join us on Saturday, February 1st in the Banquet Center after the 5:00 Mass for this evening of fun and fellowship for ALL AGES. DAYTIME RETREAT – The next daytime retreat is on Wednesday, February 5th, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The theme is “Introduction to the Mystics.” The retreat includes prayer, presentations, discussion and lunch. YOUTH MINISTRY: There will be NO PEACE or Prime Time this Sunday night. There will be a meeting for The Student Leadership Team from 6:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
PANCAKE BREAKFAST: The annual Pancake Breakfast to benefit youth ministry will be held on Sunday, February 9th from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. in the Large Hall. The menu will include pancakes, French toast, sausage, hash browns, coffee and juice. We will be accepting donations at the door and tickets will not be sold ahead of time. LATIN AMERICAN COLLECTION will take place next weekend. This is the only appeal made by the Diocesan Mission Office for the Cleveland Latin American Mission in El Salvador. It is the main support for three priests and one religious Sister who work in the three parishes served by our Missionaries. It also makes a contribution to the Church in Latin America and benefits projects and the formation of seminarians, religious, and lay leaders in 23 countries across Latin America.
ANNUAL ABRAHAMIC DINNER: The Niagara Foundation of Cleveland is hosting its annual Abrahamic Dinner at the Federated Church in Chagrin Falls (16349 Chillicothe Rd.) on Wednesday, February 5th from 6:00 – 8:30 p.m. This year’s theme is “Pluralism” and presenters from each of the Abrahamic faiths – Christianity, Judaism and Islam – will offer brief reflections on the topic. NICARAGUA 2014 – In partnership with IPM, St. Noel Church will travel to Nicaragua for 8 days in June 2014. The cost is $1,300 plus airfare. SOCIAL JUSTICE/ST. AUGUSTINE – On Sunday, January 26th, our volunteers will be serving the meal at the St. Augustine Hunger Center. There is a sign-up sheet on the kiosk if you are able to lend a hand.
CLEVELAND ECUMENICAL INSTITUTE FOR RELIGIOUS STUDIES – There are two more Winter Courses offered by the Cleveland Ecumenical Institute for Religious Studies. The first is a four week course presented by Alan Kolp, Ph.D., “The Spirit of Thomas Merton: From Seeker to Sanctity.” It begins on January 22nd and runs from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Lakewood Presbyterian Church on Detroit Ave. in Lakewood. The fee is $60. The second course will run on six Wednesdays from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. beginning February 19th (no class on March 5). Alison Benders, J.D., Ph.D. will present “Religions in America’s Globalized Society.” The fee is $90.

“MORE” YOUNG ADULT GROUP will begin a new series on Pope Francis’ document “The Joy of the Gospel.” We will explore the urgent need to joyfully proclaim the Gospel in our lives and we will learn more about Pope Francis. ST. NOEL FELLOWSHIP – Meetings are held on Thursdays at 12 Noon in the St. Noel Banquet Center Small Hall. FLOCK OF FRIENDSHIP is a group of Catholic singles over 40. On Friday, January 24th at 7:00 p.m. join in for the monthly game night at St. Paschal’s Life Center.
