Weekly Bulletin 08/18/13

Week of August 18, 2013

Dear Parishioners,

Next weekend St. Noel will hold a drive for used wheelchairs on Saturday, August 24th from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The chairs will be donated to Wheels for the World, a ministry begun by Joni Eareckson Tada and Friends. This organization aims to meet the needs of the disabled around the world by providing wheelchairs and sharing the love of Jesus Christ. Before being sent to developing countries, the wheelchairs are refurbished by inmates involved in a prison ministry program. The chairs are distributed in 102 countries.

The World Health Organization estimates that there is a need for 20-30 million wheelchairs around the world. In some of these countries the cost of a wheelchair can equal a year’s wages, resulting in the impossibility for people affected by a disability to ever receive one.

Due to the generosity of donors we have an overabundance of walkers, crutches, and canes. So this year we are collecting only wheelchairs (please no electric). If you have questions, contact Bruce or Karen Fraley (440-488-4657 or [email protected]).

IF YOU’RE CURIOUS ABOUT THE CATHOLIC FAITH or if you have thought about becoming a Catholic, our Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) might just be for you! Adults from all faith traditions or those with no religious background at all, are welcome to participate in our gatherings. In the first phase of the RCIA process, no commitment is required. We simply meet in an informal atmosphere of conversation and sharing, where you will be free to ask any questions you may have about the Catholic Church, its traditions or worship, and discuss where God might be leading you. These sessions are designed so that your questions and experiences are paramount to our discussion. In addition, we will focus on what the Church teaches about the Bible, spirituality, and ways of expressing our faith. If you or someone you know might be interested in inquiring about the Catholic faith, please call the parish office (440-946-0887).

SOCIAL JUSTICE/ST. AUGUSTINE – Please note, our volunteers will not be serving the meal at the St. Augustine Hunger Center for the month of August.

MISSION COLLECTION – We collected $2,139.50 for our Mission Co-op with IPM. We thank you for your generosity.

BEREAVEMENT SERIES – Our Bereavement Ministry invites anyone (participants need not be parishioners) who is coping with the loss of a family member or friend to attend a series of evenings designed to support and assist people in their grieving. The series will be held in the Nativity Room on Thursday evenings from October 3 to November 14, and each evening will include some time for prayer. These sessions will begin at 7:00 p.m. and conclude at 8:30 p.m. If you would like to attend, please register by calling the parish office (440-946-0887). Flyers are available in the kiosk.

IMMIGRATION REFORM – Please contact your House representatives and urge them to pass common sense immigration reform. The U.S. Senate has passed comprehensive immigration reform legislation by a large margin, and the U.S. House is currently considering whether to address immigration reform legislation. The U.S. Catholic Bishops have urged Congress to pass immigration reform which: provides a path to citizenship for undocumented persons living in the United States; preserves and strengthens family unity as a cornerstone of our national immigration system; provides legal avenues for low-skilled immigrants to come and work in the United States; restores due process for individuals caught up in the immigration system; and promotes efforts that will address the root causes of migration, such as poverty and persecution. For more information or to send an instant email, visit www.justiceforimmigrants.org.
