Week of July 28, 2013
Thank you to all those who made our summer Vacation Bible School a great success. The event took place last week and used Gospel Light’s VBS program, SonWest Roundup, showing how Moses can teach us about God’s ultimate plan of power, rescue, trust and love. During the week, over 100 volunteers helped 125 children to come to know the Lord in a deeper way. The children raised funds to supply tornado relief for those affected in Oklahoma.
Vacation Bible School is one of the most exciting ministerial efforts of our year. VBS would not be possible without the cooperation of so many people – parents, grandparents, friends and relatives, and especially the youth volunteers listed below:
Thanks to all!
I am also happy to announce that we received our first check for St. Noel’s participation in the Diocesan Rooted in Faith – Forward in Hope Initiative. As you remember our goal was $890,000. Through the generosity of our parishioners, $1,302,661 was pledged over a five year period. We will begin receiving our share of the donations already received by the diocese. We will receive payments quarterly.
The first check will be the largest since it represents two quarters. The first check amounted to $86,765. As determined during the Appeal, our portion will be divided as follows: 70% ($60,735.50) will go to St. Noel Endowment, 20% ($17,353) will be used for capital expenses in our parish, and 10% ($8,676.50) will be directed to the charitable efforts of our Social Justice Fund, St. Augustine Hunger Center, Project Hope for the Homeless and Catholic Relief Services. I will keep you informed of particular disbursements as they occur and the amounts of quarterly checks we will be receiving from the diocese. Thanks to all of you who made our participation in this initiative such a success.

This is just a reminder that if you do use the lower level, please remember to turn off all lights when you are finished. IF YOU’RE CURIOUS ABOUT THE CATHOLIC FAITH or if you have thought about becoming a Catholic, our Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) might just be for you! Adults from all faith traditions or those with no religious background at all, are welcome to participate in our gatherings. In the first phase of the RCIA process, no commitment is required. We simply meet in an informal atmosphere of conversation and sharing, where you will be free to ask any questions you may have about the Catholic Church, its traditions or worship, and discuss where God might be leading you. These sessions are designed so that your questions and experiences are paramount to our discussion. In addition, we will focus on what the Church teaches about the Bible, spirituality, and ways of expressing our faith. If you or someone you know might be interested in inquiring about the Catholic faith, please call the parish office (440-946-0887).
