Dear Parishioners,

When our Parish Pastoral Council was discussing what qualities of St. Noel should be a part of our new mission statement, one was obvious: “inspiring worship.”  Our weekly liturgies are the focus of our parish life.  We are known throughout the Diocese as a parish with full, active worship in praise of God.  Central to our worship is our music.  Our liturgies invite all in our assembly to raise our voices in song.  To assist in this role, we depend upon hymnals that are located at your seats.

In 1992, we purchased Glory & Praise hymnals for this purpose.  They have served us well for the last 21 years.  Over that time, the hymnals became severely worn.  The implementation of the new translation of the Mass last year also rendered parts of them obsolete.

Beginning this weekend, you will find new hymnals at your seats.  Glory & Praise is no longer in print.  We have chosen Journeysongs to replace them.  The new hymnals have the new translation of the Mass, as well as 80% of the hymns in our old hymnals.  We have the option of including any music not in the new hymnals on the front of the bulletin.  We have also inserted inside the back cover the parts of the Mass we use most regularly such as the Gloria and Creeds.

On behalf of our entire parish, I would like to thank Mr. Raymond Prendergast who donated the new hymnals and accompanying books for the choir in memory of his wife, Maggi Prendergast.

As we begin using our new hymnals let us always remain thankful for our parish, for our music ministry, and for all the gifts which give us reason to  lift our voices in praise of God.

YEAR OF FAITH REFLECTION QUESTION– Jesus says in today’s gospel that “the laborer deserves his payment.”  In what ways do you “receive payment” for your work in building the kingdom?

SUMMER MASS SCHEDULE – Until Wednesday, August 28th, there will be no evening Masses except for the Anointing of the Sick Masses on July 10th and August 14th. The Wednesday evening Masses will resume on September 4th.

MONDAY EUCHARISTIC ADORATION – Are you looking for a closer encounter withJesus?  We have an opening for the 6 to 7 p.m. hour at our Eucharistic Adoration or feel free to stop in anytime between 1 and 9 p.m. on Mondays. Please call the Parish Office (440-946-0887) with any questions, or if you are available to fill the 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. hour, or would like to be put on the substitute list to help when someone is not available to fill their hour.

SAVE THE DATE: On the weekend of August 3rd & 4th, Fr. Tom will return to preside at all our weekend Masses, and we will host a reception after the 11:00 Mass until 2:00 p.m. in the Small Hall.  Please stop by and thank Fr. Tom for being a part of St. Noel for so many years.

SAVE THE DATE: The St. Noel Parish Picnic will be held August 25th from 12:15 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Banquet Center and on the Church grounds.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL – Do you still need to register your child? Stop in the parish office or print out a registration form from our website,www.stnoel.org.  Hurry!  Registration ends this Thursday, July 11th.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL VOLUNTEERS – Set-up is next Sunday, July 14th right after the 11:00 Mass.  All hands on deck will make the work go smoothly and quickly.  See you then!

OUR TEENS SAY “THANK YOU” – Thank you for your prayers and support of our teens who travelled to Baltimore for a week of service through Young Neighbors in Action.  As a sign of their gratitude, the teens invite you to join them on Thursday, July 18th at 7 p.m. in the Small Hall for a follow-up evening.  You can see photos, hear stories, and ask questions about their experience.

ST. NOEL CONCERT CHOIR – Recently, our Concert Choir performed in Erie, Pennsylvania.  Please check the music section of the kiosk for an article and pictures of their performance.

FARMER’S MARKET – The Cleveland Foodbank, along with the Western Lake County Food Pantries, is sponsoring a free Farmer’s Market for those who meet the income eligibility guidelines established by the government. (Guidelines are available in the parish office.) The market will be held on the following Thursdays: July 25th, August 22nd, September 26th, and October 24th, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at St. John Vianney Church, 7575 Bellflower Road, Mentor. Volunteers are needed to help with the market. Please call Mary Ellen Buzanski (440-951-1094) if you would like more information or are able to volunteer.

Something to think about from the St. Noel Endowment Board…  If you have included St. Noel in your estate plan or would like to know how, please contact the office and leave a message for the Endowment. One of our trustees will confidentially contact you.  We are making progress toward our goal of “50 Wills for the Future of St. Noel”, but we need to know of YOUR plan.

ST. NOEL FELLOWSHIP – Meetings are held on Thursdays at 12:00 Noon in the St. Noel Banquet Center. Activities are: JULY 11TH  Show Old Pictures/Short Bingo;  JULY 18TH–Nomeeting (Vacation Bible School): JULY 5TH –  Bingo, we will celebrate anniversaries and birthdays.  Bring something for the Food Pantry and get a free 50/50 ticket.  Everyone is welcome to attend.

JESUIT RETREAT HOUSE – There will be a book signing with Terry Pluto from 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. on Monday, July 29th at theJesuit Retreat House, 5629 State Road, Parma.His book,Faith and You Vol. 2,will be available for purchase and signing. Terry is a long time columnist for The Plain Dealer and has received more than 50 state and local writing awards. The cost is $5.00. FIRST FRIDAY CLUB OF CLEVELAND will present a talk by Christopher G. Kerr entitled “A Voice with the Stranger: Ignatian Advocacy for Humane Immigration Reform” on Thursday, July 11th, at 12 noon at the City Club of Cleveland. Those who wish to attend the luncheon buffet should contact their table chairperson or reserve a ticket by calling the reservation line (440-390-0172). Tickets are $20.00 per person. Buffet opens at 11:30 a.m. Reservations and cancellations must be final by 9:00 a.m. the Monday preceding the luncheon (July 8th).

OUR LADY OF MT. CARMEL CHURCH THEATER GROUP – will be performing their 43rdAnnual Musical, “Once Upon a Mattress”, on July 12, 13, 14, 19 and 20 at Lakeland Community College in Mentor.  Please see the flyer on the kiosk for further information, or call Jodee Mulroy at 440-943-2724.

TUTORING: Individual tutoring by the Ursuline Sisters is available for students kindergarten through college in a variety of areas. One-to-one tutoring sessions for ACT/SAT preparation are offered for those taking or re-taking the tests at any time during the year. UNIVERSITY HOSPITALS CASE MEDICAL CENTER – Currently certified Eucharistic ministers are needed to distribute Holy Eucharist to patients at the main campus of University Hospitals in Cleveland. For more information, please call the Pastoral Care Office (216-844-1668).

SINGLE MOTHERS ACHIEVING REAL TRIUMPH (SMART) is a support program offered through the Women’s Center at Lakeland Community College to single mothers who will be starting Lakeland in the fall. The ideal program participant is a single mother of minor children (divorced, separated, never married or widowed) with financial need, who can attend classes during the day. The SMART program is an on-campus, daytime program. Please contact the Women’s Center for more information (440-525-7322). Flyers are available in the kiosk.

FEST 2013 – There is something inspiring when we come together in the name of the Lord.  Imagine standing with 20,000+ for an outdoor Mass?!?  There ‘s Strength in Numbers.  That’s the theme for FEST 2013 which takes place on Sunday, August 4, 2013 on the grounds of the Center for Pastoral Leadership in Wickliffe. The day is filled with great music, inspiring displays, opportunities for prayer and reflection, tours of the seminary, and much more.  The day begins at 12 Noon and concludes with Mass at 8 p.m. followed by an amazing American Fireworks display.  The FEST is FREE and open to all.  For more information, go to: www.theFEST.us, or call 440-943-7662.
