Dear Parishioners,

The Catholic Church is committed to take concrete and proactive steps to prevent the tragedy of child sexual abuse. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has issued a “Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People” which calls for a zero tolerance policy in dealing with incidents of abuse. Our diocesan guidelines call for a continuing effort to instruct and inform everyone about the protection of children in our midst. My letter today is meant to be part of this effort.

Any person who suspects past or recent inappropriate behavior by priests, deacons, religious, lay ecclesiastical ministers or personnel associated with the Church should report such behavior to the diocesan Response Service Office (216-334-2999) or email[email protected]. Reports of suspected abuse will be made to the Public Children’s Services Agency (PCSA) or a municipal police department or county sheriff where the child resides or where the abuse is believed to have occurred. Seewww.clevelandchildprotection.org for the listing on the home page of the names and telephone numbers of the PCSA in all eight counties of our Diocese, along with additional information about safe environment programs and procedures.

Inappropriate behavior towards any child is incompatible with the gospel call to honor and protect life. As Catholics we must take every step to assure that such actions come to an end.

YEAR OF FAITH REFLECTION QUESTION– In what way can you be the comforting presence of Jesus to someone who needs it?

SUMMER MASS SCHEDULE – Beginning Wednesday, June 19th and going through Wednesday, August 28th there will be no evening Masses, except for the Anointing of the Sick Masses on July 10th and August 14th. The Wednesday evening Masses will resume on September 4th.

SACRISTANS are needed for the 11:00 Mass on Sundays. If you think you might be interested, please call the parish office. We would like to have at least two more volunteers in order to be able to schedule each once a month.

USHERS NEEDED – We are looking for ushers for the 5:00 p.m. Saturday evening Mass. We welcome men and women. The commitment is one Saturday per month and you will have a schedule in advance. If you are interested, please call the parish office for further details (440-946-0887).

WELCOME TO NEW PARISHIONER – We would like to welcome William A. Muth as a newly registered parishioner to our community.

CATHOLIC UPDATE is available in the kiosk. The theme of the June issue is “Scripture and Tradition: Revealing God’s Plan.”

PILGRIMAGE – YEAR OF FAITH – As part of the Year of Faith, Bishop Lennon has designated five diocesan churches as pilgrimage sites: St. John Cathedral, St. Sebastian, Akron; and the churches of St. Mary in Painesville, Elyria and Wooster. Catholics are invited to visit these sites on pilgrimage, which is a journey to a sacred place made with devotion and reminding us of our journey to God. If you are interested in following this devotion, you can pick up a pilgrimage booklet in the narthex or check the website,www.welcomecatholics.com.

MONDAY EUCHARISTIC ADORATION – We have an opening for the 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. hour. If this time conflicts with your schedule, we do have openings on the substitute list. If you are unable to make a commitment at this time, remember that you are always welcome to stop in anytime on Mondays between 1:00 and 9:00 p.m. Please call the parish office for contact information if you are available to fill the 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. hour, or would like to be put on the substitute list to help when someone is not available to fill their hour (440-946-0887).

SAVE THE DATE: The St. Noel Parish Picnic will be held August 25 from 12:15 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Banquet Center and Church grounds.

CONGRATULATIONS to all of our young people on another successful school year! In a special way, we recognize our graduating seniors and wish them luck in their next steps in life.

20/20 DONATIONS: If you would like to contribute to the “20/20 Club” which funds our high school summer service trip through Young Neighbors in Action, you can drop a check off in the parish office during the week or put it in the collection basket. Checks can be made out to St. Noel with “YNIA” in the memo line.

ST. NOEL VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL – Get ready for SonWest Roundup VBS! Join us from July 15-19 (9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. daily) for a rip-roarin’ good time with Jesus. We will travel down the trail to hear exciting Bible stories, make and eat delicious snacks, sing and dance to toe-tappin’ music, create fun crafts, play fun games, and much more. An optional field trip to Lake Metroparks Farmpark is planned for Wednesday afternoon, July 17 from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. We’ll end the week on Friday, July 19 at 6:00 p.m. with a picnic dinner and musical program, where all VBS children will perform. GOLDEN WEDDING ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION – Bishop Lennon will celebrate the annual Golden Wedding Anniversary Celebration this year at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist on Sunday, July 28th at 2:30 p.m. Registrations are now being accepted for couples married 50 years (married in 1963). Couples who are celebrating other significant anniversaries (55 or over) or who have missed previous celebrations are also welcome to register and attend. Deadline for registration is Monday, June 24, 2013. Please call the parish office (440-946-0887) for a registration form.

LOOSE CHANGE FOR WOMANKIND: Please return your baby bottles to the parish office so we can forward them to Womankind. Thank you for your support of this organization which assists pregnant women and newborns who are in need!

SUPPORT A JUST FARM BILL – Our United States Bishops are asking us to urge our Senators to support a Farm Bill that feeds hungry people, promotes stewardship of creation, fosters small family farmers and helps rural communities. FARMER’S MARKET – The Cleveland Foodbank, along with the Western Lake County Food Pantries, is sponsoring a free Farmer’s Market for those who meet the income eligibility guidelines established by the government. (Guidelines are available in the parish office.) The market will be held on the following Thursdays: July 25th, August 22nd, September 26th, and October 24th, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at St. John Vianney Church, 7575 Bellflower Road, Mentor. Volunteers are needed to help with the market. Please call Mary Ellen Buzanski (440-951-1094) if you would like more information or are able to volunteer.

Something to think about from the St. Noel Endowment Board….There are no small gifts in the eyes of our Lord.  A bequest of any size is the ultimate expression of stewardship and appreciation for all you have been given.  Please consider a bequest to the St. Noel Endowment Fund in your Will.

ST. NOEL FELLOWSHIP – Meetings are held on Thursdays at 12:00 Noon in the St. Noel Banquet Center. Activities are: Thursday, June 13th, horse racing; June 20th, meeting followed by a luncheon of swiss steak, mashed potatoes, mixed vegetables, salad, rolls & butter, and apple pie. The cost is $6. For ticket information please call the parish office (440-946-0887). The deadline for tickets & payment is June 17th. On June 27th, we’ll celebrate birthdays and anniversaries. Bring something for the Food Pantry and get a free 50/50 ticket. Everyone is welcome to attend.

DIVORCE RECOVERY FOR CATHOLICS, an 8-week support group program designed to meet the needs of those who are divorced or separated will begin Tuesday, June 11th and conclude on July 30th, from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at St. Anselm Church, 12969 Chillicothe Rd., Chesterland.For more information, or to register, please call Catholic Charities (440-352-6191 or 1-800-242-9755), or email ([email protected]).There is no charge for this program and it is open to people of all faiths.

TRIBUNAL FIRST STEP PROGRAM FOR ANNULMENTS – Please see the flyer on the kiosk concerning a simplified method for the initial presentation of an annulment case to the Tribunal. The next presentation about the Church’s teaching on marriage, the annulment process, and a path to healing after divorce will be held on Thursday, June 13th at 7:00 p.m. at St. John Vianney Parish in Mentor.
