You may have noticed advertising on TV or on the radio announcing a special event throughout our diocese. All Catholic churches in our area will be offering an opportunity for the Sacrament of Penance on Wednesday, February 20th from 5–8 p.m. This is a Lenten effort connected to the Year of Faith. It is aimed at people who have been away from the church and wish to come home.
We will be providing this opportunity here at St. Noel and we are asking for your help. If you know someone who is Catholic but has not been practicing their faith, would you reach out to them and let them know of this area–wide opportunity? There are invitation cards in the Narthex which you can pick up after Mass and use as you invite those who may be interested. They are able to come to any Catholic church in our diocese. I will be in our Reconciliation Room off the chapel in the church on February 20 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Alice will be in the Narthex to welcome anyone who decides to return to the church and to direct them to the Reconciliation Room if they wish.
A reminder to parishioners that we will be holding a GIFT session on that same night, February 20th. Fr. Joe Koopman will be presenting a talk on “Virtues for Lent: Disrupting the Roots of Sin” in the Banquet Center. I encourage you as parishioners to attend that GIFT session. We will be offering a Communal Penance Service for our parish on Wednesday, March 13th at 7:30 PM.
Come to the GIFT session on February 20. Invite those who are inactive in the faith to celebrate the Sacrament of Penance here that same night. And come to the Sacrament of Penance yourself on March 13th.

YEAR OF FAITH REFLECTION QUESTION – When temptation comes your way, what helps you to resist it?
RITE OF ELECTION – This weekend at the 11:00 a.m. liturgy, our catechumens, Jennifer Gurley and her daughters Cassie and Nyomi, will participate in the Rite of Sending prior to traveling to St. John’s Cathedral to celebrate the Rite of Election with Bishop Lennon and other catechumens from around the diocese. Please keep our catechumens in your prayers as they continue to prepare for baptism at the Easter Vigil.
SERVERS NEEDED: We are in need of servers for all weekend masses, especially the 5:00 p.m. Saturday evening mass. Serving is open to anyone age 10 (or in 4th grade) and older: kids, teens, adults. Parents can even serve with their children. Anyone interested is welcome. Why not give it a try? If interested, please call the parish office, 440-946-0887.

CATHOLIC CHARITIES APPEAL – Last weekend we conducted our in-pew commitment for Catholic Charities.This weekend we are asking that each household unable to complete a pledge form last weekend or by mail, please do so today.There are envelopes and pencils on the table in the narthex. Please fill out a pledge envelope and place it in the basket that is on the table.No money needs to be put in the pledge envelope at this time; and if you are unable to pledge, please indicate that in the proper box.This process will eliminate phone calls.Thank you for your cooperation.
LENTEN BAGS – We will be collecting bags of items for Forbes House, Project Hope, Birthright and the St. Augustine Hunger Center. This year we will also be collecting for YWCA’s Independence Place, which offers housing, GED preparation, career assessments and job placements to young women between the ages of 18–24 who have aged–out of foster care. Tags indicating the items needed for each agency can be found in the narthex. Please use a plastic bag for your items, closing it with the yarn and tag provided. Plastic bags are available on the table in the narthex. Return filled bags to the right-hand bin in the food pantry area.
LENTEN “RICE BOWLS” are also available. Placing change into these bowls on a regular basis during Lent will help feed many in developing countries and support projects promoting agricultural, nutritional, and educational programs to encourage self-sufficiency. When the bowls are filled, they can be returned to the parish office.
PRIME TIME: There will be no Prime Time on Sunday, February 17th. There will be a student leadership meeting at 6:00 p.m. in the Teen Center.
CALLL/PEACE – There is NO CALLL/PEACE this Wednesday, February 20th. We’ll see you at GIFT instead.
VBS 2013 – Vacation Bible School will be held during the week of July 15th – 19th. Mark your calendar and stay tuned for more details. It’s going to be a rip-roarin’ time!
ST. AUGUSTINE HUNGER CENTER – Our volunteers will be serving the meal at the St. Augustine Hunger Center on Sunday, February 24th. Please sign up on the kiosk if you are able to help.
EMERGENCY HELP WITH GAS AND ELECTRIC BILLS: The Home Energy Assistance Winter Crisis Program (HEAP WCP) may be able to provide a one-time payment per heating season (Nov. 1 through March 31) for those who qualify. For information please contact Lifeline, Inc. Energy Assistance Office in Painesville (PH: 440-350-9160).
BEREAVEMENT SERIES – Our Bereavement Ministry invites anyone (participants need not be parishioners) who is coping with the loss of a family member or friend to attend a series of evenings designed to support and assist people in their grieving. The series will be held in the Nativity Room on Thursday evenings from April 4th through May 9th, 2013. Each evening will include some time for prayer. These sessions will begin at 7:00 p.m. and conclude at 8:30 p.m. in the Nativity Room. If you would like to attend, please register by calling the parish office (440-946-0887) by Monday, April 1 (or sooner, if possible). Fliers are available in the kiosk.
ST. NOEL FISH FRIES – Fridays of Lent (not Good Friday), we’ll serve from 4:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. Pricing is $11 for adults, children from 6-12 are $5 each and 5 and under are free. Volunteers are needed for serving and cleanup. Sign-up sheets are on the kiosk. You will not receive a phone call – just come at the time you have signed up. Also, Randy needs volunteers who can help set up Fish Fries on Fridays at 12:30 p.m. If you can help, please call the Banquet Center office (440-946-6635) and let them know.
STATIONS OF THE CROSS – Pray the Stations of the Cross each Friday of Lent at 7:30 p.m. in the church (after the fish fry). On Friday, February 22nd, stations will be led by Fr. George.
Something to think about from the St. Noel Endowment Board…. When is the last time you looked at who the beneficiaries are on your life insurance, IRA or other accounts? It’s time to take a look, update if necessary. When updating beneficiaries, know that a charity like the St. Noel Endowment fund can be a beneficiary of all or part of one of these assets.
ST. NOEL FELLOWSHIP – Meetings are held on Thursdays at 12:00 Noon in the St. Noel Banquet Center Small Hall. Activities are: On February 21st, 12 Noon, meeting followed by luncheon of cavatelli w/meatballs & sausage, garlic sticks, salad and cherry pie. For ticket information, please call the parish office (440–946–0887). The cost is $6 and the deadline for tickets and payment is February 18th. On February 28th, the activities are bingo, birthdays and anniversaries. Bring something for the food pantry & and get a 50/50 ticket! Everyone is welcome to attend.

RETREAT FOR YOUNG ADULTS IN THEIR TWENTIES AND THIRTIES: The “What Next” retreat will be held at Bethany Retreat Center in Chardon, OH.
