Christmas will soon be here. I would like to inform you about a new approach we will be implementing regarding the music for our Masses on Christmas.
For years our music ministry has concentrated its energy on the Mass at midnight. This included a program of music beginning at 11:15.
Over the years, however, the habits of our parishioners have changed. I do not want to say we are all growing older, but it is true that fewer people are choosing to stay up until midnight. Last year midnight Mass was the least attended of any of the four Christmas liturgies. This fact has led us to adjust our musical forces to provide a more even distribution for the holiday. Agnieszka has asked each member of our music ministry to serve at two masses at Christmas. They have graciously responded, and this will allow a significant presence of our music ministry at each Christmas Mass. We will also enhance the liturgies with instrumentalists and bells. Every liturgy will include a prelude of Christmas music beginning 15 minutes before the opening song.
Midnight will still be a special liturgy for those who wish to attend. But I feel confident that now all of our liturgies will have strong musical support. I look forward to celebrating our Savior’s birth with you on either Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. Since the primary musical role is that of the entire assembly, let us prepare to raise our voices in song together with the generous gifts of our music ministry.
