Weekly Bulletin 8/17/14

Dear Parishioner,

As I announced last month, on this Monday, August 18th construction will begin to replace the large set of windows behind the music area in our church. These windows are original to the 1983 building and leak seriously during heavy storms. We have tried several times to repair them, without success. They have simply outlived their effectiveness.

If the construction goes as planned, it should be complete by Friday, August 22nd, so when you come to Mass next weekend all will be back to normal in the church. In fact, because the windows are a replacement, you might not even notice the difference. So here is a little tip if you want to track the improvement to our church. If you look today at the two large windows in our church–one behind the music area and the other at the end of the baptistery transept–you will notice they are not identical. On the baptistery window, the lowest horizontal bar is thinner than the bar on the other window. The window on the baptistery side was replaced during the 2004 renovation of the church. When the construction this week is complete, both windows will match each other.

We submitted this project to competitive bids. Pella Windows will serve as our contractor. The cost of the project is $35,000. This improvement has been made possible by funds derived from the Rooted in Faith Campaign. Thanks to all who participated. It will be satisfying to see the results of your generosity.

Fr. George Smiga

PEOPLE OF GOD, THE HISTORY – Why did Perpetua choose martyrdom over care of her infant son?  How did a broken soldier build an army for Jesus? What made Luther so angry?  Why did our immigrant grandparents build our parish churches with their own hands?  Join a parish group that will meet on Tuesdays from 7:30 – 8:30 p.m. beginning September 30th to examine these questions and much more. There will be light readings each week (from the above book by Anthony Gilles) and an opportunity to share your views in a discussion led by parishioner Kathy Coolick.  Sign up on the kiosk or call 440-943-1805 with questions.

These sessions are designed so that your questions and experiences are paramount to our discussion. In addition, we will focus on what the Church teaches about the Bible, spirituality, and ways of expressing our faith. If you or someone you know might be interested in inquiring about the Catholic faith, please call the parish office at 440-946-0887.
