Weekly Bulletin 8/10/14

Dear Parishioner,

For many years we at St. Noel have held a summer parish picnic. The purpose of the picnic was to enjoy each other’s company as parishioners and to celebrate our connectedness in Jesus Christ. The picnic has taken different forms over the years. For several years it was held at the Metro Park, then we used Campbell Park next to Willoughby Hills City Hall. Most recently we have used our own parish grounds. Over time, however, we have found that fewer and fewer people were able to attend the picnic. It seems that with so many summer events such as vacation, sport camps, family reunions to mention a few, it was more difficult to find a time when the parish could come together.

After discussion with our staff, we have decided to replace the picnic with a parish spaghetti dinner, and to hold the dinner during the winter months when people’s calendars are more open.

Therefore, there will be no parish picnic this summer, but we will hold a parish spaghetti dinner on Sunday, February 8th beginning after the 11:00 a.m. Mass. Further details about the event will be shared as the date approaches. The dinner will be free and open to all parishioners. Its purpose will be the same as the parish picnic to enjoy one another’s company and to celebrate our connection in Jesus Christ.

Things change, but there are always new ways to honor what we value.

I look forward to celebrating our life as a parish with you this coming February.

Fr. George Smiga

PEOPLE OF GOD, THE HISTORY – Why did Perpetua choose martyrdom over care of her infant son?  How did a broken soldier build an army for Jesus? What made Luther so angry?  Why did our immigrant grandparents build our parish churches with their own hands?  Join a parish group that will meet on Tuesdays from 7:30 – 8:30 p.m. beginning September 30th to examine these questions and much more. There will be light readings each week (from the above book by Anthony Gilles) and an opportunity to share your views in a discussion led by parishioner Kathy Coolick.  Sign up on the kiosk or call 440-943-1805 with questions.

IF YOU’RE CURIOUS ABOUT THE CATHOLIC FAITH – or if you have thought about becoming a Catholic, our Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) might just be for you!  Adults from all faith traditions or those with no religious background at all are welcome to participate in our gatherings.  In the first phase of the RCIA process, no commitment is required.  We simply meet in an informal atmosphere of conversation and sharing, where you will be free to ask any questions you may have about the Catholic Church, its traditions or worship, and discuss where God might be leading you. These sessions are designed so that your questions and experiences are paramount to our discussion. In addition, we will focus on what the Church teaches about the Bible, spirituality, and ways of expressing our faith. If you or someone you know might be interested in inquiring about the Catholic faith, please call the parish office at 440-946-0887.
