Weekly Bulletin 6/22/14

Dear Parishioner,

When St. Noel was founded in 1980, Carole Lester began to work in the parish office as a volunteer. When I became Pastor in 1991, she became a member of our staff serving as Office Manager. In that capacity Carole has been responsible for all the administrative tasks of our parish: payroll, mailings, office operations and scheduling of liturgical ministers. She also has coordinated the upkeep of the parish plant and supported the ministers on our staff. The smooth and efficient running of St. Noel is largely due to her skills and commitment.

As of July 1, 2014 Carole will be retiring. She will be deeply missed, not only for her competence, but also for the personal and caring manner in which she dealt with all she served. Personally I have deeply appreciated her ministry. She has significantly reduced the amount of administrative issues which would otherwise fall to me, and has consistently made me look good. I am proud to call Carole a friend.

For the last three months, Gina Luberger has been working with Carole so that she will be able to assume the role of Office Manager when Carole retires. There has been a lot to learn, but Gina has been diligent and attentive and she knows that she has the support of us all.

Next Sunday, June 29th from 10-11:30 a.m. we will host a retirement reception for Carole in the Small Hall. There will be refreshments and the opportunity for you to thank Carole for her years of service. Gina will also be present so that you can meet her if you have not yet had the opportunity.

Although Carole intends to remain an active parishioner at St. Noel, it is difficult to adjust when someone has served so well. We will miss her wisdom, her smile, and her sense of humor as a regular part of our parish office, and both Gina and I have her phone number at the very top of our contact list.

SUMMER MASS SCHEDULE – Beginning Wednesday, June18th, and going through Wednesday, August 27th, there will be no evening Masses, except for the Anointing of the Sick Masses on Wednesday, July 16th and August 13th.  The Wednesday evening Masses will resume on September 3rd.

OUTDOOR MASS SCHEDULE – We will be celebrating weekday Masses in the chapel on the following days this summer (weather permitting):

  •            Friday, July 4th – 9:00 a.m.
  •            Tuesday, July 15th – 8:45 a.m.
  •            Tuesday, July 29th – 8:45 a.m.
  •            Friday, August 8th – 12:00 noon
  •            Tuesday, August 19th – 8:45 a.m.
  •            Monday, September 1st – 9:00 a.m.

You are invited to join us for liturgy on these days. If you have a problem with steps, you may reach the outdoor chapel more easily through the church. You can also use the chapel for private prayer at any time.

PETER’S PENCE COLLECTION – Next weekend, June 28th and 29th, our ushers will be in the narthex to accept donations to the Peter’s Pence collection. The proceeds from the collection funds emergency-relief assistance to those throughout the world who suffer from war, oppression, and natural disasters.

LITURGICAL MINISTER SCHEDULES – have been emailed and mailed to all Ministers. Please let the office know if you did not receive your copy. Thanks for all you help.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION – We are in need of an additional person to come to Adoration on Mondays from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Please call Jan at 440-951-5593 or 440-944-3034 if you are able to fill this time slot. Each Holy Hour that you make in the presence of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament releases His power and graces upon you, your family and your parish. In today’s busy world, it is so meaningful to spend this precious time with God. If you are unable to make a definite commitment, please stop in anytime during Eucharistic Adoration and you’ll be richly blessed.

USHERS NEEDED for 5:00 p.m. Mass on Saturdays. Please call the parish office if you would be interested.

SUNDAY MORNING HELP – We are looking for someone who would be willing to be available to volunteer on Sunday mornings from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the Church office. This is sometimes the only time that people are able to drop things off, pick things up, and ask questions. It is a great way for you to meet other parishioners. Please call the parish office if you feel you might be interested.

IF YOU’RE CURIOUS ABOUT THE CATHOLIC FAITH – or if you have thought about becoming a Catholic, our Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) might just be for you!  Adults from all faith traditions or those with no religious background at all are welcome to participate in our gatherings.  In the first phase of the RCIA process, no commitment is required.  We simply meet in an informal atmosphere of conversation and sharing, where you will be free to ask any questions you may have about the Catholic Church, its traditions or worship, and discuss where God might be leading you. These sessions are designed so that your questions and experiences are paramount to our discussion. In addition, we will focus on what the Church teaches about the Bible, spirituality, and ways of expressing our faith. If you or someone you know might be interested in inquiring about the Catholic faith, please call the parish office at 440-946-0887.

YOUNG NEIGHBORS IN ACTION “20/20 CLUB” – Donations for “20/20” can be put in the collection basket in an envelope marked “20/20” or brought to the parish office during the week. Checks should be made out to St. Noel with “YNIA” in the memo line.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL – Do you still need to register your child? You can stop in and do this at the parish office, or print out a registration form from our website (https://stnoel.org) and drop it off or mail it in. Registration ends on Thursday, July 10th. VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL VOLUNTEERS – Our volunteer meeting is Wednesday, June 25th at 7:00 p.m. in the Banquet Center Small Hall. Are you an adult or teen who would like to volunteer for VBS? We need you. Contact Michele ([email protected] or 440-946-1128, x18).

VBS NEEDS EMPTY PLASTIC BABY WIPE BOXES – If you have been thinking about replacing the ones you have, now is the time. You can leave these on the bench between the narthex and the office. Thank you for your response to our need for baby food jar lids!!

VIRTUS TRAINING SESSION – will be held on Tuesday, July 8th at 6:30 p.m. in the Banquet Center Small Hall. If you volunteer with children at St. Noel you are encouraged to attend one of these sessions. The  VIRTUS® program helps the Church to be a safe haven for children and a messenger for child sexual abuse prevention within the Church and society in general. BABY BOTTLES FOR WOMANKIND – please return your filled baby bottles to the parish office. The representative from Womankind is scheduled to pickup the filled bottles on July 3rd. Thank you for supporting the good work of Womankind (http://www.womankindcleveland.com/).

BLOOD DRIVE – thanks to all who donated to the blood drive and to those who donated their time to make it happen. Our next blood drive is scheduled for August 17, 2014 and we could use some volunteers.  Please contact Anthony if you would like to help (946-1128 x28).

ST. NOEL CLOTHING SHED – people from around the community continue to utilize the clothing shed more and more. Of course, you can always place used clothing in the indoor clothing bins as well. Donating quality clothing and shoes is a wonderful act of mercy that benefits people around the world. Please continue to spread the word about our shed.

CAREGIVER SUPPORT GROUP – Serving as a caregiver is a tremendous joy and commitment. This group, which met for the first time in May, is a place to talk about the  struggles and joys in caregiving. All caregivers are invited. The next gathering is scheduled for Tuesday, June 24th at 1:00 p.m. in the Resurrection Room. If you are a caregiver and looking to find support from people who understand all that comes with your commitment, please consider joining us on June 24th. SOCIAL JUSTICE/ST. AUGUSTINE – On Sunday, June 29th, our volunteers will be serving the meal at the St. Augustine Hunger Center. There is a sign-up sheet on the kiosk if you are able to lend a hand.

endowment-tSomething to think about from the St. Noel Endowment Board…. If you have included St. Noel in your estate plan or would like to know how, please contact the office and leave a message for the Endowment. One of our trustees will confidentially contact you. We are making progress toward our goal of “50 Wills for the Future of St. Noel”, but we need to know of YOUR plan.

ST. NOEL FELLOWSHIP – Meetings are held on Thursdays at 12 Noon in the St. Noel Banquet Center Small Hall. June 26th – Bingo, birthdays and anniversaries. Bring something for the Food Pantry and get a 50/50 ticket. Everyone is welcome.

GEAUGA FAMILY FARMS CSA – the harvest has begun and fresh produce is arriving at St. Noel every Saturday morning.  If you did not purchase a 20-week share and would like to participate this summer, you can still sign up for a 15-week share.  Information is available at: http://www.geaugafamilyfarms.org/2014-summer-season/.

THE CLEVELAND FOOD BANK, along with the Western Lake County Food Pantries, is sponsoring a Free Farmers Market. Note the time change from those in the past: June 26th, July 24th, and August 28th, the 4th Thursday of the month, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 Noon at St. John Vianney Church, 7575 Bellflower Rd., Mentor, Ohio. Eligibility guidelines, established by the government, are available in the parish office, or feel free to call Mary Ellen or Ray Buzanski, (440-951-1094). Volunteers are also welcome.

GOLDEN WEDDING ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION will be celebrated this year with Bishop Lennon at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist on Sunday, July 27th at 2:30 p.m. Registrations are now being accepted for couples married 50 years. Deadline for registration is June 23rd. Please call the parish office (440-946-0887) for a registration form.

FLOCK OF FRIENDSHIP is a group of Catholic singles over 40. Membership is free. Events are social, volunteering and spiritual. On Friday, June 27th at 7:00 p.m. join us for our monthly game night at St. Paschal’s Life Center. This is one of our best attended events and is good for old and new members. Please bring a snack to share, money for pizza and a favorite game. Please call Dan at 440-223-8707 for any questions.

ATTENTION KNITTERS AND CROCHETERS, WE NEED YOU! As part of their mission to assist children In Lake County, Christ Child Society members assemble layettes for Birthright and local hospitals. Some items are purchased and others are homemade. We are in need of handmade afghans (40×40/tight weave/pastel colors) and we will provide the yarn. If you are interested, please contact Monique Cicco at 440-357-5221 or Irene Hinkel at 440-289-5383.

MASS OF REPARATION AT ST. BERNADETTE CHURCH 2256 Clague Rd. Westlake, Ohio 44145 will be held on Friday June 27th at 7:30 p.m. Sponsored by the Diocesan Enthronement Center.

SEEDS OF LITERACY, a nonprofit organization offering free, one-to-one tutoring in adult basic education and GED preparation, has an urgent need for more tutors. DAD’S DEN – As we celebrate Father’s Day, THE FEST (our 14th annual Catholic Family FESTival) is creating its first ever Dad’s Den. The FEST is a day of FAITH, FAMILY and FUN – all for FREE. IGNATIUS IN THE MEADOW – FEAST OF ST. IGNATIUS on July 31st, from 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m.  To celebrate this Feast you are invited to bring your blanket, lawn chair, and friends to the JRH MEADOW for an evening of free music and fun. WILLOUGHBY HILLS will be hosting their First Community Garage Sale Day on Saturday, August 9th. Residents can plan to have a Garage Sale at their home and we will do all of the advertising for you for FREE! We will advertise for you in the newspaper, radio, our website, Community Channel, at the Community Centre, Facebook, Craig’s list…everywhere! If you are not a resident, or will not be hosting a Garage Sale, come shopping throughout the City of Willoughby Hills!
