Weekly Bulletin 6/8/14

Dear Parishioner,

In 2004 our parish entered into a relationship with “Women and Community,” a group of 17 women in El Salvador who established a sewing business which allowed women to earn a living wage and at the same time preserve their local culture.

This relationship was immensely successful both to the women and to us as a parish. It was facilitated through International Partners in Mission (IPM). IPM works across borders of faith, culture, and economic circumstance with children, women, and youth to create partnerships that build justice, peace, and hope throughout the world.

This month St. Noel will be engaged in another international visit sponsored by IPM. Anthony Camino, Nancy Erdey, and Eva and Karel Jelinek will join 5 other people representing two local organizations for an 8-day visit to Nicaraqua. They will visit 2-3 small cooperative businesses and meet the founders, and dialogue with local residents to understand the current situation in the country as well as the history of the United States’ involvement in the country. Finally they will spend evenings in reflection and dialogue with IPM staff.

The Gospel of Christ calls us to recognize Christ in the presence of the poor and spend time building relationships with those we meet. Through these relationships, the developed world has much to gain from understanding both the needs and the gifts of the developing world.

Our prayers go with our parishioners as they engage with this international and ultra-cultural experience. We look forward to hearing their reflections and insights when they return to us.

Fr. George Smigs
