Weekly Bulletin 5/25/14

Dear Parishioner,

One of our goals as a parish community is to support one another in understanding and articulating what our faith is all about. None of us can do this adequately all on our own. However, when we share our experiences, we strengthen our chance to fully proclaim the mystery of our faith.

Every sacramental celebration gives us the opportunity to do this. During the Easter Season, twenty-one children celebrated the Sacrament of Eucharist for the first time. Over the course of a year, along with their families, they explored the ideas of belonging, believing, serving, forgiving, story-telling and celebrating. They spent many hours learning about their faith, participating in ministry experiences and paying special attention when they gathered with the parish community for liturgy. Now these children and their families would like to share what they have learned about their faith with you!

Next weekend, we will celebrate “Sharing the Mystery” weekend. At all masses, our First Communion children are invited to wear their communion attire and be part of the opening and closing processions. After Mass, they invite you to join them in the Banquet Center Small Hall so that they can share their story with you. Visit their tables, meet them and their families, view their scrapbooks, taste their traditional family breads, ask them questions, and even share a memory of your own first communion with them…the children will appreciate the gift of your presence.

At. St. Noel, we are inspired by these words: One Lord, One Faith, One Family. Let’s celebrate this next weekend when we join as the Body of Christ and proclaim together the mystery of our faith!

CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORD – There will not be Children’s Liturgy of the Word this Sunday, May 25th.  For the summer months, beginning in June, there will only be Children’s Liturgy of the Word at the 11:00 a.m. Mass.

SUMMER MASS SCHEDULE – Beginning Wednesday, June18, and going through Wednesday, August 27th, there will be no evening Masses, except for the Anointing of the Sick Masses on July 10th and August 14th.  The Wednesday evening Masses will resume on September 3rd.

AT HOME WITH THE WORD – We will need to place our order for the At Home With The Word books. If we ordered for you last year, you are on our order list again. Please call the parish office (440-946-0887) by June 20th if you have decided to CANCEL, CHANGE YOUR ORDER, OR IF YOU WOULD LIKE   TO ADD YOUR NAME TO RECEIVE A BOOK(S).

OUTDOOR CHAPEL CLEAN-UP will be happening on Saturday, June 7th after 12 p.m. so that we can set dates for outdoor Masses this summer. Anyone who is able to lend a hand, please come (with rakes, clippers, leaf blowers, etc.) and join us.

YOUNG NEIGHBORS IN ACTION “20/20 CLUB” – Last weekend Erica explained the “20/20 Club” in her letter in the bulletin. After Masses this weekend, a representative from Prime Time will be in the narthex to accept your donations toward this effort. You may also bring donations to the parish office during the week. Checks should be made out to St. Noel with “YNIA” in the memo line. Those who contribute are invited to a post-trip gathering on Sunday, July 27th after the 11:00 a.m. Mass, where they will have the opportunity to hear about the experience from the teens who attended Young Neighbors In Action. You can also find a registration form to print.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL 2014 happens July 14th-18th (Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m.). Registration will be after Masses on the weekends of June 7th & 8th and June 14th & 15th. Questions? Contact Michele ([email protected] or 440-946-1128 x 18)

VBS NEEDS BABY FOOD JAR LIDS – Put CLEAN lids in a baggie marked “VBS” and leave them on the bench between the narthex and the office.

SOCIAL JUSTICE/ST. AUGUSTINE – Next weekend, May 31st & June 1st, our ushers will be in the Narthex after Mass to accept your donations for our Social Justice Ministry.

SOCIAL JUSTICE FUND – For April, 2014 we collected $1,083.85. Our expenses for April were:

SOCIAL JUSTICE – HELP OUR NEIGHBORS: Assistance for the elderly is a growing need in Lake County and a small offer of assistance can make a big impact on lives. Faith in Action of Lake County is spearheaded by Senior Independence and funded by the United Way of Lake County. It is designed to meet the needs of the frail, elderly and disabled of Lake County that have not been met by other means. The type of help being given includes friendly visits, shopping/errands, light housekeeping, meal preparation and transportation to doctors’ appointments. RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE – Our next blood drive is scheduled for Sunday, June 15, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. You can register online at: www.redcrossblood.org or use the sign up on the kiosk.Thanks to Tom and Kathleen Repko for coordinating this drive! LOOSE CHANGE FOR WOMANKIND –   Help us change the lives of an expectant mom and her baby by participating in our Womankind Baby Bottle Fund Raiser. Baby bottles available in the narthex. We are asking you to take one home, fill it with your loose change, and return it to the church office on or before the weekend of June 14th and 15th (Father’s Day ). The funds generated will help Womankind provide free prenatal care and a full range of support services to pregnant women in need. THE CLEVELAND FOOD BANK, along with the Western Lake County Food Pantries, is sponsoring a Free Farmers Market. Note the time change from those in the past: June 26th, July 24th, and August 28th, the 4th Thursday of the month, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 Noon at St. John Vianney Church, 7575 Bellflower Rd., Mentor, Ohio. Eligibility guidelines, established by the government, are available in the parish office, or feel free to call the parish office (440-946-0887). Volunteers to help are also welcome.

endowment-tSomething to think about from the St. Noel Endowment Board…If you have included St. Noel in your estate plan or would like to know how, please contact the office and leave a message for the Endowment. One of our trustees will confidentially contact you. We are making progress toward our goal of “50 Wills for the Future of St. Noel”, but we need to know of YOUR plan.

ST. NOEL FELLOWSHIP – Meetings are held on Thursdays at 12 Noon in the St. Noel Banquet Center Small Hall. Activities are: Birthdays and Anniversaries will be celebrated on May 29th –  Bring something for the Food Pantry and get a 50/50 ticket; June 5th – Bingo; June 12th – Auction; June 19th – 12:00 p.m. Socializing, meeting, 12:30 p.m.  Luncheon of lemon chicken, red skin potatoes, mixed vegetables, salad, rolls & butter, apple pie. For tickets call: Rosemary Baranauskas 440-585-4548. Deadline for tickets and payment is June 16th.  Cost is $6.00; June 26th – Bingo, birthdays and anniversaries. DIVORCED & SEPARATED SUPPORT GROUP will begin on Tuesday, June 3rd and conclude on July 22, 2014, at Divine Word Church, 8100 Eagle Rd., Kirtland, from 7-9 p.m. For more information or to register, please call Catholic Charities at 440-352-6191 or 800-242-9755, or email [email protected]. GOLDEN WEDDING ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION will be celebrated this year with Bishop Lennon at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist on Sunday, July 27, 2014, at 2:30 p.m. Registrations are now being accepted for couples married 50 years. TOUCH OF LIFE: BECOME A HOSPICE VOLUNTEER –  The next three sessions of volunteer classes will take place in our Mentor office on Wednesday and Friday, May 28 and 30th from 5:30 – 9:30 p.m., David Simpson Hospice House in Cleveland; Mondays and Wednesdays, June 9,11,16 and 18th from 5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.; or Parkside Church in Chagrin Falls, Saturdays, June 21, and 28th from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Teens and volunteers not having patient contact only need to attend the first hour of a series while most other volunteers attend all sessions. GRACE HOSPICE – is seeking volunteers in your neighborhood to visit with patients and their families. No healthcare experience is necessary, just a willingness to help and compassion for others. Grace Hospice provides medical care for patients at the end stage of life with the goal of keeping the patient comfortable in their own home or in a long term care facility. HOSPICE OF THE WESTERN RESERVE WALK TO REMEMBER – will be held on  Sunday, June 8th from 8:00 a.m. to 12 Noon. The event benefits patients and families cared for by Hospice of the Western Reserve. Registration is $20 for an individual and $60 for a family. Children’s admission is $10. This includes all-day admission at the Zoo and Rainforest, t-shirts, snacks and live musical entertainment.To register, visit http://www.hospicewr.org/walk. THE FEST – Mark your summer calendar and plan to join us on Sunday, August 3rd for the FEST – our 14th annual Catholic Family FESTival held on the grounds of the Center for Pastoral Leadership in Wickliffe.

JESUIT RETREAT HOUSE upcoming retreats and programs: May 30 & 31 – Ignatian Currents:Searching for God through Imagination & Story:Living out Ignatian Tradition. Ignatian Currents is comprised of two programs – Friday May 30th from 7:00-9:00 p.m. – We Are a People Formed Through Our Stories.The cost is $25. Saturday, May 31st from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. – Our Stories Constitute the Celebration of God’s Ongoing Revelation in Our Lives. The cost is $50. NEED TUTORING? The Ursuline Institute of Learning provides individual tutoring by certified Ursuline teachers in a variety of areas for pre-school children, elementary school children, teenagers, college students and adults. Also, college counseling is available upon request and informal evaluations to identify the challenges students face in reading.
