Weekly Bulletin 2/16/14

Dear Parishioner,

Caring for those in need is a consistent teaching of both the Old and New Testament. Jesus personalizes this responsibility by sayng “Whatever you do to the least of my brothers or sisters, you do to me.” (Matt 25:40).  For decades, Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Cleveland has called upon Catholics of our area to support the work of Christ. Each year Catholic  Charities assists almost 400,000 people in need by providing meals, shelter, counseling, job training, and hospice for the terminally ill. These actions of service are provided regardless of race, color, religion or disability.

As you leave church this weekend, you will receive a flyer outlining the 2014 Catholic Charities Appeal. Next weekend, we will ask you to make your pledge to the Catholic Charities Appeal here in church.

Over the next week I ask you to read the flyer and to reflect upon the Gospel call to share with others what we have been given.  Give serious thought to what you are able to contribute so that over 100 years of service by Catholic Charities may continue.

WEBSITE NEWS – Our new parish website is powered by a program called WordPress. We are looking for a parishioner, conversant with WordPress, who would be willing to serve as a consultant to the website. If you have advanced skills in WordPress and would be willing to offer some limited time to make our website more effective, please contact Fr. George at the parish office (440-946-0887).

Those who wish to review homilies by Fr. George on our parish website will be happy to know that recent homilies will not only be available in written form but also as audio files. This will allow you to hear a recent homily on your computer, iPad, or smart phone. You can access recent homilies by visiting our parish website (stnoel.org). We are attempting to have each homily available by the Wednesday following the weekend on which it has been offered.

EVENING WITH POPE FRANCIS – On Wednesday, March 12th from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. we will gather in the Large Hall to discuss the document “The Joy of the Gospel” issued by Pope Francis.  The section we will be discussing is the Exhortation for our Lenten reflection.  You will find them on our parish website.  A printable PDF file is also on the website.

PEACE & PRIME TIME will not gather this Sunday.

YOUNG NEIGHBORS IN ACTION: All high school teens completing 9th grade through 12th grade are invited to join Prime Time this summer on our annual summer service trip through Young Neighbors in Action.  Y.N.I.A. is a week-long Catholic service-learning opportunity committed to exploring our Church’s mission in the world while connecting teens to meaningful service opportunities with other young people from across the country. This summer, we will travel to Buffalo, New York, July 13th-20th. If you would like more information, please check the kiosk or contact Erica Witmer [email protected] or call 440-946-1128 x20. PANCAKE BREAKFAST – Thanks to your generous support last weekend at our Pancake Breakfast, we raised $1,435.53 for our youth ministry programs.  Thank you for showing our young people how much we value them.

CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORD – If you are an adult interested in assisting at Children’s Liturgy of the Word, or a young person in grades 3-12 interested in ministering as a lector at Children’s Liturgy of the Word, please see Michele or contact her ([email protected] or 440-946-1128, ext.21)

GAME NIGHT – A second parish game night has been scheduled for Saturday, March 1st. Join us in the Banquet Center Large Hall after the 5:00 Mass. We will provide pizza and pop. Bring your favorite game and game night treat to share. Sign up on the kiosk if you plan to attend.

NICARAGUA 2014 – In partnership with IPM, St. Noel Church will travel to Nicaragua for 8 days from June 16th – June 23rd, 2014. The cost is $1,300 plus airfare. This is a unique opportunity to experience the people of Nicaragua and learn how people of faith are making a difference. Is this trip right for you?  Call Anthony to talk about it (440-946-1128 ext. 22).

DAYTIME RETREAT – The next Daytime Retreat will be on Wednesday, February 26th from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm.  The theme is “Caring for Caregivers.” The discussion will include resources and learning to care for ourselves in order to care for others and will be facilitated by Eleanor Reilly. Please sign up on the kiosk. The suggested donation is $6.00.  Further details can be found on the St. Noel website.

CLEVELAND ECUMENICAL INSTITUTE FOR RELIGIOUS STUDIES – On six Wednesdays from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. beginning February 19th (no class on March 5). Alison Benders, J.D., Ph.D. will present “Religions in America’s Globalized Society.” The fee is $90. For more information, please call Bernadette LaGuardia (216-283-1507). ST. AUGUSTINE DINNER/AUCTION – Mark your calendars, this event will take place this year on October 16, 2014. More details will follow in the coming months.

endowment-tSomething to think about from the St. Noel Endowment Board…. When is the last time you looked at who the beneficiaries are on your life insurance, IRA or other accounts?   It’s time to take a look, update if necessary.  When updating beneficiaries, know that a charity like the St. Noel Endowment fund can be a beneficiary of all or part of one of these assets.

ST. NOEL FELLOWSHIP – Meetings are held on Thursdays at 12 Noon in the St. Noel Banquet Center Small Hall. Activities are: February 20th, 12:00 Noon, meeting followed by a luncheon of chicken soup, ham & swiss on Italian bread, and miscellaneous desserts. The cost of the luncheon is $6.00 and the deadline for tickets and payment is Monday, February 17th. On February 27th, there will be bingo and the celebration of birthdays, and anniversaries. Receive a free 50/50 raffle ticket when you bring something for the food pantry. Everyone is welcome.

THE TRUST 100 FIVE-STAR SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION for high school seniors is available in the pocket on the kiosk.  Applications need to be turned in to DeJohn-Flynn-Mylott Funeral Home by April 1, 2014.

FLOCK OF FRIENDSHIP – This group is for singles 40 and over. BENEDICTINE YOUTH SKILLS BASEBALL CAMP – All boys in grades 5 through 8 are invited to attend the Benedictine High School 2014 Youth Skills Baseball Clinic. CHRIST CHILD SOCIETY – The Christ Child Society is a non-profit organization of women dedicated to serving at-risk children in the love and spirit of the Christ Child. SPRING CRAFT SHOW – New for 2014 – The Willoughby Hills Spring Craft Show will be held on Saturday, March 29th from 10 am to 4 pm at the Community Center.  For details, contact Willoughby Hills Recreation Dept. at 440-975-3540 or visit our website at www.WilloughbyHills-OH.gov.

PANCAKE BREAKFAST – Willoughby Hills will hold their annual all-you-can-eat Pancake Breakfasts on Sundays, March 2nd, March 9th and March 16th from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm at the Willoughby Hills Community Center.  Pre-sale tickets can be purchased at City Hall and the Community Center Office. Ticket prices are Adults ($6 pre-sale, $7 at the door), children ages 6 thru 12 ($3.50), under 5 are free.

TUTORS NEEDED – Seeds of Literacy, a non-profit organization offering free, one-to-one tutoring in adult basic education and GED preparation, has an urgent need for more tutors.  Upcoming training sessions are listed on the kiosk.  Contact Alexandria Marshall (216-661-7950) for more information.
