At the end of summer, it is a good time to review with you the building maintenance projects we completed this year.
As I write this letter on September 19th, workers are in the church installing new lighting for the altar and a new electrical panel which allows us to use modern LED lighting. The project is necessary because the old incandescent bulbs are no longer being produced. The cost of the installation and materials is $40,000.
This summer we also repaved another 20,000 square feet of our parking lot for $29,000. We replaced three air conditioning units for our meeting rooms and narthex for $21,000. Necessary sewer and water back flow issues were corrected for about $6,000.
Homeowners readily understand how repairs must be made to maintain the functionality of their property. I would like to thank all parishioners who contribute to St. Noel, because your stewardship allows us to care for our buildings and grounds in a timely fashion.

HURRICANE IRMA – This weekend our ushers will accept your donations for those affected by Hurricane Irma. The Catholic Communications Campaign will take place the weekend of October 15th & 16th.

AT HOME WITH THE WORD books have arrived. For those who have ordered books, they are now available for pick up in the parish office at a cost $6.50 each.

TRAINING FOR MINISTERS OF HOLY COMMUNION The diocese has scheduled numerous training sessions for new Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion. The closest to St. Noel is Sunday, October 15th from 2:00-4:30 p.m. at Divine Word Parish in Kirtland. We have room for new Eucharistic Ministers at all weekend liturgies. If you are interested in being trained, please contact Anthony at the parish office.
FAITH FORMATION PROGRAMS – It’s not too late to join any of our programs for families and children. Just contact Michele ([email protected]; 440-946-1128, x121).
CALLL – Continues this Wednesday, September 27th from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. Drop-off and pick-up are in the Small Hall of the Banquet Center. Remember to bring your binder.
CATECHESIS OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD – This program for children ages 3-5 and Kindergarten happens during the 9:00 a.m. Sunday Mass. Three year olds and those new to the program can attend an orientation session this Sunday, September 24th in the Lower Level. The full group begins next Sunday, October 1st.
ATTENTION YOUTH! – We are gearing up for an exciting year in Youth Ministry and we want YOU to be a part of it! If you are you in Middle School or High School and want to be involved, there are registration forms available in the Narthex. Fill one out and drop it off in the parish office. Be sure and check the bulletin for more exciting announcements to come!
PRIME TIME – High school teens from 9th-12th grade are invited this Sunday evening, September 24th, from 6:30-8:00 p.m. in the Lower Level. Calendars and registration forms are found in the kiosk.
PEACE – Middle schoolers in grades 6-8 are invited this Tuesday, September 26th from 6:30-8:00 p.m. in the Lower Level. Calendars and registration forms are found in the kiosk.
CONFIRMATION – On Sunday, October 22nd, candidates will be part of the Rite of Affirmation and be acknowledged at the 11:00 a.m. Mass. A brief family meeting will follow from 12:30-1:30 p.m. We will discuss the format for preparation, qualifications for sponsors, and requirements to be confirmed. PANCAKE BREAKFAST – Mark your calendar for the first of two Pancake Breakfasts whose proceeds will benefit our Youth Ministry. This will take place on Sunday, October 29th from 10:00 a.m. -1:00 p.m. in the Banquet Center. Tickets are not required and a free-will donation will be taken. Spread the news!
SKY ZONE – Attention youth in grades 6-12: you are invited to Sky Zone on Sunday, October 8th from 5:00 -8:00 p.m. Pick up and drop off is at the Sky Zone in Highland Heights (750 Alpha Dr, Highland Heights). Cost is $20 and includes pizza, beverages, one hour of jumping, and jumping socks. Please turn in check or cash to the parish office. Make checks payable to St. Noel. Parents of jumpers will have to complete a waiver form found on the following website: https://highlandheightsstore.skyzone.com/waiver/. Payment and waivers are due by October 2nd. There will be no PrimeTime on Sunday, October 8th and no PEACE on October 10th.

ST NOEL BEREAVEMENT MINISTRY SUPPORT GROUP – A death changes those left behind. The grief that follows such a loss is natural and normal, but many of us find our own reaction to grief unexpected. Learning about grief and understanding the reaction to your loss in a supportive environment can be helpful. To assist those who have lost a loved one, the St. Noel Bereavement Ministry will be offering a 5 week Support Group this fall. You are invited to attend the Bereavement Support Group on Saturdays, Oct. 7, 14, 21, 28, and November 11, 2017, at 10:00-11:30 a.m., in the Nativity Room. DISTRICT MINISTRY CONFERENCE – The Lake/Geauga district of Catholic parishes is hosting its 3rd annual ministry conference from 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 7th at St. Gabriel Parish in Concord. Fr. George will offer the keynote address, and workshops are available for anyone involved in parish ministry. BLANKET SUNDAY – Is coming the weekend of October 7th-8th. This collection is sponsored by the Diocesan St. Vincent de Paul Society. DIVINE WORD PARISH – will be hosting “Welcome Home to Inactive Catholics.” This has been successful in the past as dozens of people have returned to the Church. The program will begin on Tuesday, October 3rd at 7:00 p.m. in the parish rectory and continue for the next five weeks. All are welcome!
DEJOHN FUNERAL HOMES AND CREMATORY – Is once again sponsoring Stockings for Soldiers & Shelters. Stop by DeJohn Funeral Homes in Willoughby Hills, Chesterland or South Euclid between 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday, through November 1st and pick up a Christmas Stocking to decorate and stuff with Christmas Cheer. Included with the stocking is a list of appropriate items to send along to our troops, their families or local organizations. DIVORCE RECOVERY FOR CATHOLICS – Is an 8 week support group designed to meet the needs of those who are divorced or separated. The meeting is at St. Mary Church, 401 North Street, Chardon, from

VOLUNTEER AT THE WILLOUGHBY HILLS WELLNESS RUN – For the last two years, the city of Willoughby Hills has hosted a 5k run/walk and given part of the proceeds to the St. Noel Food Pantry. We recently received a check for $1752.34 from the 2016 event! The 2017 Wellness Run is scheduled for Sunday, October 1st. Registration flyers are in the narthex if you would like to participate in the race. We also need 2-3 volunteers to help on the morning of the race. Please call Anthony if interested.
PET BLESSING – Grace Episcopal Church, 36200 Ridge Road, Willoughby, is hosting an animal blessing on Saturday, September 30th at 2:00 p.m. in the parking lot. A “biscuit and treat” reception will follow the service.
