Lenten Bags
The call
of the Lenten Season (and of our daily lives!) is to pray,
fast and give alms. We invite parishioners to live out part
of that call by filling a grocery bag with supplies needed
by one of the following agencies:
- Project
Hope for the Homeless
- St.
Augustine Hunger Center
- Forbes
House - the Lake County Women's shelter
- Birthright
of Lake County.
- WREN – Women’s Re-entry Network
Each bag
has a listing of items needed. Bags can be picked up at the
beginning of Lent and returned any time during the Lenten
season. Volunteers will deliver them to the respective agencies.
Direct
Assistance
A portion
of our Social Concerns Fund is used to assist people when
they have difficulty meeting their financial obligations.
While we are not able to assist with large sums of money we
can usually help with a utility bill, a prescription
or a portion of a rent payment. Funds are to be utilized for one time emergency situations and cannot be used to sustain ongoing household expenses. Requests from people unknown
to us are generally referred to the Lake County Church Network
for further screening and assessment (in some instances monies
are available from county, state or federal sources). If the
Network finds the request valid and has no other source for
funds we, along with other churches that belong to the Network,
try to meet the applicant's need.
If you
have a request, call Alice Hinkel at 440-946-0887.
Social
Justice Ministry Fund
Our Social Justice Ministry Fund supports our monthly meal at St. Augustine Hunger Center, our food pantry and our direct assistance program.
On the last weekend of the month,
a collection is taken up after all Masses specifically for
this fund.
